My Resource Library

Five Family Favorites

Back when I was getting my site up and running in 2018, I knew I wanted to give my subscribers a free little cookbook of handy recipes.  This mini cookbook contains recipes that my family has enjoyed over the years. Some of these recipes have been in my family for years, while others are new additions!

Five Family Favorites

You can grab your free copy of Five Family Favorites from the resource library when you subscribe.  Download this little collection of recipes and you’ll be able to find them in a snap whenever you need to make pie crust, eat breakfast, plan a family pizza night, or enjoy a tasty dessert!

Ingredient Glossary

I get it.  An Ingredient Glossary might not sound super sexy, but it’s a very useful tool in my resource library.  When I talk to friends and family, the consensus is that it’s so easy to cook because you can very easily tweak a recipe to your own preferences.  Baking requires more precision and can scare amateur bakers off of making any changes to the recipe.

Bread Flour, cutting board and a kitchen towel

BUT when you learn more about how ingredients behave and interact, you actually learn that there are ways to have more freedom in a baking recipe.  It is always best to make a recipe AS IS the first time you bake it. You need to know exactly how the recipe behaves before you can start gettin’ crazy in the kitchen.

How to Use the Ingredient Glossary

The Ingredient Glossary breaks down some of the most common baking ingredients like sweeteners, flours, and leavening agents.  Once you are comfortable with a recipe, you can use this information to begin developing your very own recipes! It’s easier than you think once you’ve got a bit of experience, but be aware that you’ll still have some blunders.  That’s okay! It can take a few bakes to nail down a recipe.  It took me over a decade to nail down this recipe for Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip Cookies.

There’s also a handy bonus at the bottom of this freebie.  A conversion chart! Some recipes, like my Red Velvet Pancakes, have weirdo measurements.  This conversion chart breaks down common measurements in tablespoon amounts, making it much easier to measure ingredients in some recipes.  It will also help you halve recipes. Of all of my goodies in the resource library, this one is going to teach you a bit about baking.

Special Occasion Menus

As a parent, I love making holidays and celebrations a little bit EXTRA.  This starts as early as breakfast (like birthday pancakes, heart shaped pancakes, etc.) and carries on throughout the day!  But sometimes I forget to plan things out in advance and I have to come up with festive food ideas on short notice. That’s how I created this little piece of menu inspiration in my baking resource library.

FREE Baking Resources to make holiday planning less stressful | Bakes & Blunders

For every holiday and some popular special occasions, I’ve listed some themes to help you get brainstorming.  If you really need someone to spell it out for you, I’ve even listed some specific recipes to take all of the thinking out of the equation.  This item in the resource library is going to help you plan out tasty treats for all of your special occasions.

Celebration Meal Planner

I love hosting a party full of food, friends, and family, but it can be so stressful.  You’ve got to figure out what foods you’re serving, the recipes you’ll be using, cooking and baking times, and the list goes on!  This can be pretty overwhelming, so I like to write everything down. Pretty sure I get this from my dad, but if I don’t write it down there’s a 75% chance I will forget about it.

Let's Celebrate! Meal Planner with a pen and measuring spoon

With your printable Celebration Meal Planner, you can jot down all of the important notes about your meal courses.  There’s even another section just for general notes.  If you only print one item off from the resource library, print this. It’s going to make party planning much less stressful, and who isn’t going to love that?!

But Wait!  There’s More!

Whenever I come up with a new item to add to my resource library, I send it out to my current subscribers first.  I don’t want you to ever miss a great tool just because you subscribed early on. And if you ever think of something that will make life easier in the kitchen, let me know!

Some other gems in the baking resource library include number templates for making a number cake, a sample cake template, and handy prep sheets for baking macarons and cakes. You can even read about more resources right here

i agree with all the people who comment. usually when i think of baking i think of very strict and precise. i usually i associate experimenting with cooking. but its great to know that baked goods dont always have to become inedible when experimenting, with the right know-how of course.

While I suggest sticking with tried and true recipes for important events, it can be a lot of fun to experiment with baked goods. Most people are intimidated by this, but when you learn how the ingredients work together and aren’t afraid of blunders, you can create something truly unique and tasty!

Those sound like really useful resources to have – especially the glossary. Handy to have a guide to all the different baking and cooking terms.
