Baking with Tea
Whenever you want to incorporate tea into a recipe, you basically have two options. One, steep the tea into a concentrated liquid and use this in your wet ingredients. Two, use the dry or powdered tea in your dry ingredients. Both options can work well.
These tea inspired dessert recipes use a variety of teas and methods for incorporating their unique flavors into the bakes. If you ever sip on a cup of tea that begs you to bake with it, let your creativity fly! Hopefully these recipes can help inspire your own bakes.
Milk Tea Cupcakes
These soft, moist cupcakes are made by infusing evaporated milk with black tea. This combination gives the cupcakes that rich, brown coloring and adds so much flavor to each bite. Top with brown sugar Swiss meringue buttercream and fresh brown sugar boba!
Cardamom Chai Macarons
Cardamom and chai flavor both the macaron shells and the white chocolate ganache filling. These pretty cookies were an absolute hit with my friends! The spices create a warm, cozy flavor that pairs perfectly with the sweet ganache.
Chocolate Earl Grey Tarts
Earl grey is my all time favorite tea. Its strong flavor with citrusy notes is able to shine through the rich chocolate filling in these gluten free chocolate tarts.
Golden Chai Madeleines
Adding a chai spice blend with a dash of turmeric to my madeleine batter created these gorgeous autumnal sponge cakes. They are slightly orange and taste just like a pumpkin spice dessert.

Dirty Matcha Macarons
Matcha powder adds flavor and color to these over the top macarons! Fill the matcha macarons with sweetened condensed milk buttercream and caramel sauce. Then dip the cookie into some melted white chocolate and sprinkle with crushed Oreos.
Sweet Cinnamon Chai Biscotti
Pairing the chai spice blend with some cinnamon sweet bits was such a yummy choice. The cozy spices add a ton of flavor to the biscotti with bursts of sweet cinnamon in every bite.
Green Tea Macarons
The earthy flavor of green tea in the macaron shells gets paired with the sweet, spicy kick of ginger in this recipe. Ginger buttercream and crystallized ginger provide that special blast of flavor.
Rose Chai Cupcakes
I used my favorite rose masala chai as a milk substitute in order to create these soft, delicious rose chai cupcakes. They are filled with a simple pistachio cream and topped with a rose water buttercream. Floral and spicy flavors are a perfect pair!
Turmeric Latte Macarons
If you’ve ever had a turmeric latte or a golden milk latte (those were BIG for a hot minute years ago), you know all about that sweet, spiced flavor combination. Turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, and even more spices flavor half of the buttercream filling. The other half is flavored with malted milk powder to create the latte effect.
Honey & Mint Sandwich Cookies
Mint tea with honey can be such a soothing and refreshing drink. I dumped two tea bags right into my shortbread cookie dough to create a light mint tea flavor. Each pair of cookies was filled with honey buttercream and a touch of honey in the center.
