Winter Seasonal Food Guide

Winter is here and that means holidays, family, snow, and food!  Food is so important this time of year as we gather with loved ones and stuff our faces.  While fresh produce may be limited in this cold weather, my Winter Seasonal Food Guide will help you out.

The Cold Never Bothered Me Anyways

Okay, that’s a big fat lie for me, but some fruits and veggies could be singing this tune right along with Elsa.  I started writing these seasonal food guides specifically because I could never think of fresh produce to use in the Winter.

While Winter produce may be more limited than the bounty of Spring or Summer, if you use this Winter Seasonal Food Guide for inspiration, you’ll find plenty.  And by eating seasonal fruits and veggies, I think you’ll find a natural diversity in your yearly diet.

Personally, I think spices are more important this time of year than any other.  Don’t forget to use ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, and more to liven up your menu.  You’d be surprised what a difference they can make.

My Current Obsession

Why have I waited over 3 decades to try pomegranates? I mean, I’ve tried the POM juice before, but that doesn’t count. Ben saw a pomegranate at the grocery store and wanted it, so we brought it home and cracked it open.

Pomegranate Arils

First of all, they are dang gorgeous on the inside. It was fun (if a bit tedious) getting all of the arils out. They are so darn tasty too! I’m a bit obsessed and I want to use them in a recipe. If you have a suggestion, leave me a comment and help me brainstorm. Thanks, baking buddy!

Don’t Forget Your Chart

The seasons change and it’s hard to remember what is in season every few months.  This Winter Seasonal Food Guide is handy, but imagine having a chart that included all four seasons?!
